Good Dog, Good Dog

Christmas 07
Today we had to put down our 13 year old cocker spaniel, Kiley. She had been L's 13th birthday present. We got Kiley when she was 6 weeks old, so she has been the baby of the family for quite awhile. Her white coloring made her unusual, and her underbite gave her an Elvis Presley sneer. She was a great little watch dog until the last six months when she lost her hearing. Her barking kept visitors at bay and scared the UPS men. She never bit anyone, just peed when she got nervous or excited. One of her unique talents was using the layout of our rooms as a running track. When she was younger, she would go nuts running as fast as she could around the circle and sliding across the kitchen floor when she got going too fast. She also would sit and watch TV. If someone got in her way, she would move her head to the other side so she didn't miss anything. When animals came on, she would jump at the screen, trying to get to them.
In the last few months, she had lost control of her bladder. It hasn't been much fun for her lately. We had a hard time getting her awake. You could walk right past her and she didn't even know you were there.
Anyway, I am pretty sure that God has a special place in heaven for cute little cocker spaniels. In fact, I am counting on it.
