The Bat Saga Continues

We've got learning disabled bats. Even the "Bat Man" thinks so.

We've had funnels on our house for three weeks now. The funnels allow the bats to get out, but they can't get back in that way. The funnels are attached to the spots where the bats were getting in and out daily.

When the funnels first went up, we had a lot of bats exit our attic. I wrote about it here. (WW II bombers, remember?) We thought they were all out. We weren't hearing their annoying scritching sound. (No need to let me know that scritching isn't a word. I'm making it one. It is the sound bats make in my attic.)

During the 2nd week, I started hearing bat scritch again. Quick! To the red phone! We need Bat Man! Actually, Bat Man had planned to remove the funnels and seal the entry points that week. Instead, he got to drive 3 hours to check out the situation.

And Bat Man looked thoughtfully at the house and said, "I think you have stupid bats. (DUH!) I wonder if they can't figure out how to get out through the funnel." He made an easier exit for them, said he would leave the funnels up for a couple more weeks and be back. (His only other theory, besides stupid bats, was that we might have had a late hatching and the baby bats couldn't fly out yet.)

So another week has gone by and I am still hearing bat scritching. Bat Man says the "little critters" will leave soon. Little critters my eye! $#&@ bats!! He is too kind. He can afford to be kind. (That was a pretty nice fee I paid him.) And I've noticed that he isn't exactly wanting to take the "little critters" home with him.

Frankly, these thoughts have crossed my mind lately:
  • Sell the house. (Bats are just a perk for the new owner.)
  • Burn the house. That'll show 'em!
Yes, I am slowly going insane. It is all that bat scritching.

I did sell a house once, because there were so many mice in it all the time. I sold it while I.T. was at work. I can't recommend doing this. But I am thinking of throwing a grenade at my bathroom wall to get the wallpaper glue off, so I think burning it sounds reasonable.

"Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side, keep on the sunny side of life. Whoopie! You will feel no pain, as we drive you in sane, just keep on the sunny side of life."

Just a little song we used to sing when I was a kid. hee hee

You poor thing. Burning the house - well that may be a bit extreme - but I can understand your frustration. We had a possum in our last house that used to "scritch" around all the time and made me batty (if you will pardon the pun). Hopefully they will find the funnel soon.

Oh, no. I hope Batman knows what he's doing. You don't really want to use either one of those options, right?!

I'm pretty sure I would HATE to have a fire. Someday we will sell, but probably not soon. *sigh* I'm just going to have to cope until they fly the coop.
