I Blinked

K turns 29 today. It doesn't seem possible. If I could figure out how to hook my scanner to my new laptop, I'd share some favorite baby pictures. Another day, perhaps.

For me, it was love at first sight. Who knew my life could change so much and so quickly? Looking back on the years, I wouldn't have missed a moment of it.
K (on the right) in grade school days, just hanging out with her sis!

On the left this time. I think this was L's senior photo shoot, so K would have been a sophomore in college.
And this year with CT.
-
Sometimes I miss the little girl days: the singing and dancing, frilly dresses, reading books to her, thumb sucking, and night time prayers.
-
Sometimes I miss the grade school days: learning to read, practicing multiplication tables, swimming and dance lessons, summer softball, and listening to her chatter about her friends.
-
Sometimes I miss the high school years: cheerleading, walks at the track, the smell of her perfume and hairspray, shopping trips, school dances, and her first dates.
-
Sometimes I miss the college years: collegiate singers, sorority Mom's weekends, furnishing a dorm room and then an apartment, tailgating, and the graduation speech.
-
And now I just get to enjoy: the friendship, her success as a teacher, chick flick afternoons, and meeting for a drink after school.
-
Twenty-nine years later, I can't imagine my life without her. She and her sister are by far the best thing that I have done with my life.
-
Happy Birthday, K! You're sure to get a few presents. Your Dad and I were the ones that got the real gift twenty-nine years ago. We love you!

You brought a tear to my eye. I so feel that way about my girl, although at 14 we are still facing many challenges. I hope that when she is 29 I will have those happy memories to look back on. I hope she thinks that I am a good Mum. You obviously have such a good relationship with your daughter, how blessed you are. She looks beautiful - I hope she has a wonderful birthday.
