Randoms, Dr. E, and a Birthday

This week's random dozen questions by Lid at 2nd Cup of Coffee.

1. How good are you at delaying gratification?
Probably average.  I always tell myself that good things come to those who wait.  Sometimes.
2. Maybe a marshmallow wouldn't be too difficult a temptation for you. What food (or anything else) would be most tempting?
Cookies.  I am a cookie-holic.  Other pregnant women craved pickles and ice cream; I craved cookies.  Someday I will die of cookie poisoning.  (Grandad came up with that disease.  I think he might have had it, too!)
3. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being saintly) how patient are you?
Oh, maybe a 2.  I am more patient with my students than my family, and even my students will tell you that I'm not very patient. I want it done my way and pronto!

4. Have you ever waited for something in life only to be disappointed upon realization of the goal/object/etc.?
I can't really think of anything.  I try to underexpect.  (Is that a word?! If it isn't, it should be!) I think high school proms taught me that.  They were fun and all, but not as great as everyone made them out to be. It was just another dance, although a bit dressier.

5. Are you a person who takes shortcuts?
No.  I tend to stick to the road or path. I stay on the sidewalk.  And in teaching, there really are no shortcuts.  You have to read the whole book or write the entire paper.  The answers in the back of the book won't help you if you don't know how to work the problem.

6. Which line is hardest to wait in?
Any store line.  I don't really like shopping--grocery or otherwise.  It prolongs my time in the store when there are huge lines.
7. Did you wait to discover the gender of your unborn child until its birth?
That technology wasn't available at the time, but even if it had been-- I don't think I  would have wanted to know.  That anticipation was incredibly exciting!
8. Are you more patient with children or the elderly?
Probably elderly.  With a child, it is too tempting to intervene and either "speed them up" or do it myself.
9. Did you ever sneak a peek at a present?
Maybe as a kid.  (Though my little sis would tell me, and I wouldn't have to peek!)  Never as an adult.  I like surprises!

10. What is the longest you've ever waited for anything?
Nine months.  They were worth it.  (Unless you count that trip to Europe that I have been waiting on for 30 years.  The clock is ticking!)
11. Who has more patience, you or your significant other?
As impatient as I am, I'd say he is worse.  He can't wait on presents when giving or getting.  He never follows directions when putting things together--it takes too long.  And don't get me started on his calling when he thinks someone should have arrived home already.  A lot of his impatience comes from worrying--which he rarely owns up to!

12. Which of the following songs about waiting is your pick for the best? (OK, you may substitute another, if you like.)
A) Anticipation by Carly Simon
B) The Waiting by Tom Petty
C) Right Here Waiting for You by Richard Marx
D) Wait for Me by Rebecca St. James
I'd  have to go with E)  I'm In a Hurry (And Don't Know Why) by Alabama  (Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.)

And a few more random things thrown in:

You can officially call me Dr. E.  The Mr. flunked his sleeping test in a big way.  In an hour and a half of his "sleeping," they could already find major problems.  The sleep masks were another disaster.  He will be returning to the doctor and perhaps returning for another sleep test to try other alternatives.  My guess is that he has been running on very ineffective sleep for years. Oh, why didn't I go to Med School?  I could be diagnosing the world!!

L is quite happy to learn that CG is headed this way in a couple of weeks.  She thinks this long distance stuff is for the birds.  I can't blame her, though she has been a champ for 5 months now.

CT (part of the K and CT couple) is celebrating his 30th birthday today!  We met his parents for the first time at a pre-birthday dinner last night.  They are very nice people.  Oh!  And their son isn't bad either.  Happy Birthday, CT!  Everyone needs this song on their 30th.

#12 I totally forgot about that song (my dad is such a fan of country music and I can't stand most of it, but when I was a kid I always kinda liked Alabama).

#2 I'm a total cookie-holic too. Especially warm chocolate chip cookies!! Yummm.

I really enjoyed your answer, especially since I, too, am a cookie lover!

I empathize with you regarding the sleeping - my husband has worn a CPAP for years,

Two things, poor Mr. E, and you are quite a deep sleeper Mrs. E if you were able to sleep through that for years. I hope he finds a cure.

I am ALL about your Random Dozen, Dr. E! My impatience is legendary (although I try to be humorous about it). I would have to go with Petty's "The Waiting (Is the Hardest Part)" for my song though. And not just because I'm a huge Petty fan. :)

If by CPAP you mean a Darth Vader mask, then i know what you mean. (Although the chapter I'm studying regiht now is medical abbreviations, so maybe I'll get to that one).
I love learning new things about our fellow bloggers!

E is definitely my rushing song too!! Like this post - I'm not a very patient person either... I try to be. But sometimes I just lose it! I was laughing with my mentor the other day because she noticed I started doing work in a team meeting. She knew immediately that I was focusing on something else so my impatience wouldn't come out!! My comment was, for being a teacher, you'd think I'd have more patience!
