St. Valentine's Random Dozen

This week's Random Dozen from Lid at 2nd Cup of Coffee:

1. Are you pleasant when you're ill, or are you a grumpy, fussy patient?
Not grumpy, but fussy. I like my toast cut into party squares (blame Mom for that one), and after the stroke the Mr. became a "bartender" trying to find a mix of juices that my tastebuds could tolerate.  (Diet 7-up and pineapple juice finally did the trick!)

2. When you find out that school is canceled (due to inclement weather) what is your gut reaction?
Ya-Hooooooooo!  I'm a teacher.  It's in the DNA.

3. What is one domestic skill you wish you could improve?
Cooking.  I just don't love it enough to work at it very hard.

4. Do you decorate your home for Valentine's Day?
Nope, but I did hang up a few hearts in my trailer classroom.  Spreading the love.

5. What song is on your mind today?
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game
It's easy.
There's nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you
in time - It's easy.
"All You Need Is Love"  (They keep putting great songs in commercials!)

6. Do you prefer contemporary movies or classic?
I prefer... movies!!! I can't pick.  I LOVE THEM in any form, except horror or weird sci-fi.

7. How well do you "compartmentalize" your feelings? For example, how well can you put aside a really trying moment to deal with the immediate situation which is not related to the trying moment, e.g., putting aside a tiff with your spouse in order to finish wallpapering a room.
There is a teacher mode that kicks in.  You can't dwell on much of anything when you are trying to teach a room full of teenagers.  By far the hardest time-- when Mom was so sick and then eventually died.  You paste on a smile, suck it up, and deal.  There really isn't much of a choice.

8. What is the first thing that attracted you to your spouse? (Or if you're single, to your best friend.)
His sense of humor.  (High school speech class speeches--absolutely a riot! And by the way, always off the cuff.  Homework wasn't on his radar in those days.)

9. When was the last time your heart raced?
Hmmm...a nightmare as I recall.

10. What are your memories of Valentine's Day at school?
Those shoeboxes covered in white paper, paste, and pink and red hearts--our mailboxes!

11. If you were going to receive candy for Valentine's Day, which would you prefer?
I love those little conversation hearts--but chocolate and almonds are hard to beat.

12. Red or pink?
Red.  Pink. Maroon.  I love the red family! (Except in wine.  Make mine white, though blush is good, too.)

And additional Valentine notes:
*The Student Council passed out "I am loved" pins to every student, teacher, and staff member this week.  We could use the love.

*K and I went to see V-day movie "Dear John" last weekend.

*L and I have plans to see "Valentine's Day" this weekend.

And the Mr. is probably celebrating that he doesn't have to see either chick flick!  (I haven't decided how to torture him for Valentine's Day, yet!)

PS.  K passed her Administrative Leadership Exam.  When paying $400 to take a test, it is a bonus not to have to re-take it!  One last hoop to jump through before she graduates with her masters in administration this spring.

Fun answers. I'm not very good at cooking either, and I know it's because I just don't like it enough to try harder!

Yeah for K! I'm thinking "Dear John" too- soon.

(I mean the movie, of course)

I have a blog friend investigating my Groundhog Day "connecting" problem- connecting, connecting, connecting...that I have been experiencing when visiting your site. Commenting here now is a test to see if it's fixed.

I'm not repeatedly connecting right now! Yahoo! I think it may be fixed!!

I love your student council! I have a high school daughter and middle school son and it is so hard to convey to this age kids that they are truly VALUED...they're such quivering masses of insecurity!

When you come visit my blog, would you share with me some ways I can bless their teachers without it looking like I'm trying to suck-up (and without embarrassing the kids)...

Oooo I wanna see Valentine's day soon too!! I need to wrangle up a few of my girlfriends up here and make them go -- Seth usually finds every excuse out of chickflicks at the theater!!

Congrats to K for passing her admin test!! That's super exciting! I'm sure her wallet is happy about the news too :)

I think the "I am loved" pins are a great idea! Wishing I'd thought of it earlier....

Congrats to K! I won't make my husband suffer thru Dear John but I might talk him into Valentines Day. Fun reading your answers today!

I cut my kid's toast into party squares because that's the way my mom did it for me! Just easier to eat that way layin on the couch.

Someone else said the Valentine hearts, but not the new fangled kind that says, "Text me." That made me laugh. Although I get love texts from my college daughter so maybe its appropriate.

LOVED reading your answers. I miss you. I have got to get back into blogging.

The sense of humor attracted me to mine, too.
Love the Beatles songs lately. Must be age. And yes, the ad people are preying upon our emotional attachment to those songs.

Thanks for playing this week!

Hooray for K! She must be floating on air right now! :)

With #12, I am red all the way. It's my signature color! I recently bought a pink shirt and some pink and orange jewelry in an effort to be more "girly" but I don't know... I'd rather be on fire! ;)

A few hearts in the classroom counts! You did a great job here. I did it for the first time at http://wtit.blogspot.com. Have a great night.

I loved your sweet comment about being like your daughter!

How did you like Dear John? I have been wanting to see it so badly, but I don't want to ruin the book, either!

I also could not agree more about the great songs in commercials! That is often the source of my "song of the moment" and I didn't even realize it until you said that!
