At Week's End or Wit's End?

I told you this week was a little bit nuts hectic.  Our SADD group (Students Against Destructive Decisions) always hosts a grim reaper day the week of prom.  It is to remind students of all the people killed in drunk driving accidents each year.

A student dressed in black robes (the grim reaper) enters the room and touches the shoulder of a student victim.  That student steps outside and has a red or white X placed on their face.  They can no longer talk, unless a teacher requests an answer.  And yes, I frequently want to contribute names of students I'd like the reaper to choose!
It was a bit disruptive, but it is hard to complain about this activity.  The "victims" get free ice cream for lunch, and the entire student body gets the reminder that behind the statistics are real people.

I told you on Wednesday that I couldn't remember the last time I laughed really hard.  I am often amused. It is hard to teach sophomores and not be amused.  Every day it is something.  Yesterday, this t-shirt gave me a good chuckle.
Our Men's Chorale always marches to the beat of a different drummer.  The guy sporting this shirt was quite proud of it, and he gave me a good laugh.
I might even be OK with the milk coming out my nose.  That used to be a weekly occurrence when the girls were at home.

Next week may be as hectic as this week, but there is a payday in there and I'm planning on a few laughs this weekend!  I'll let you know if water, coffee, diet pepsi, or wine comes shooting out my nose!

It is a good reminder to the prom-goers to be careful and not drink & drive. Here's hoping and praying all of the prom goers will get home safely.
Have a good weekend!

I think the grim reaper day is a very good idea. Anything to remind our kids that they are not invincible.

Hope you have some great liquid shooting out of the nose laughs this weekend!

Love the t-shirt. Kind of reminds me of something in a book I just read- Pixels by Shane Hipps (or something like that, I didn't read the whole book)- about how the photos in ads, in magazines, t.v., billboards etc. make us overly concerned with self-image, but the images we are trying to look like- the high standards in the pictures of the models etc. aren't of real people at all. The people's true image is photoshopped to death- jaw lines changed, necks elongated, eyes made bigger and lips fuller- all photoshopped until the image isn't really of any real person at all.

We're trying to look like people who do not even really exist, yet no amount of make-up or perfect clothing etc. will ever get us looking like those photoshopped images. Does this make sense?

Anyway. I want one of those t-shirts.

Our hs used to do that. We had to write about what hs and life in general would be like without the victims there. It was always very moving and it was kind of cool (in a morbid sort of way) to hear so many nice things about our pretend victims.

What a great idea. Teenage drinking is a huge issue in Australia at the moment - it is a great way to keep it paramount in the minds of our youth. Love the t-shirt - and love the laugh out loud Woody Allen quote - nothing like a good belly laugh. Have a great weekend.

Heidi, that is so true. And our whole country has a warped since of what the person really looks like.

Katie, I like the idea of a writing based on this project. I'm going to have to keep that in mind next year!
