Fab Friday

Best moments of the week:

1.  Yesterday was the last day of school.  Finals are over and grades are in.  Summer begins.

2.  The girls came by yesterday and cleaned through their old rooms.  A lot of clothes (prom dresses!) are headed to Goodwill.  They boxed up the cheer things from high school and the sorority things from college.  Those boxes will be in storage until they are in their own homes.  If we ever decide to sell our house, those things will go into a storage unit.

3.  We had a retirement party on Wednesday night for two retiring business teachers:  a husband and wife team.  They are great teachers and the nicest people.  She is absolutely beautiful, and her husband is so fun and funny.  They will be hard to replace.  It was also a going away party for an Ag teacher.  She was my former student and has been my colleague for a couple of years.  She has been a breath of sunshine at Trailer High.  I am going to miss her happy, positive attitude.  (And I'm sure hoping administration did a good job in hiring replacements for these teachers!)

4.  Two boys who had opted out of finals by passing the State Math Assessment came by to see me yesterday in my trailer room--completely coated in mud!  While some students were taking finals, they had been out mudding on an ATV.  Since I was gone to get the heart monitor on their last day of class, they stopped by to give me "hugs" good-bye.  Yeah....NO!!!  I'm so glad I'm not the mother in charge of washing those clothes!

5. On Wednesday, I had a terrible cold.  I was wearing the heart monitor until 1:30 which meant I had not had a shower since 6:00 on Tuesday morning.  My hair was dirty.  I felt terrible.  After the monitor came off, I went home and crawled into bed for a two hour nap--complete with drooling!  When I finally woke up, I took a long shower.  I don't know if it is possible to explain how much better I felt after that!  It was like being dead and coming back to life.  And I've felt better ever since.

This morning I have lingered over a cup of coffee and the morning news.  (OK.  That might be favorite moment number six!)  This afternoon K and I are taking a roadtrip to a niece's graduation in another state.  The Mr. has to work, so he is in charge of Baxter.  I'm hoping Mr. B behaves himself.  There was one morning the Mr. was calling him our "special needs" dog and threatening to make him a pound puppy!  (It had something to do with him eating dirt, rocks, and parts of railroad ties.)

Just another week in paradise...

LOL! There's nothing like a good shower, is there? My first dog was a pit bull named Duke (what else would his name be?)...he would come and sit on my lap when I was on the toilet! My husband was convinced that he was a special needs dog!
Sounds like the boys had a lot of fun on their ATV...I'm sure they had more fun the dirtier they got!
Be safe on the road this afternoon! I'm looking forward to some "lazy time" next week.

I think it's really sweet that you had students come back to say good bye.. thats a testament to the kind of teacher you are!

I'm looking forward to that first week of sitting on my porch swing and enjoying the first cup of coffee instead of swigging it down as I type in attendence on my computer! (I drink a large glass of healthy shake in the morning---I start here and finish it on the drive, so my coffee time ends up amidst the bustle of school)---How nice it will be to be able to simply enjoy it.
My kids are watching the movie now. I wasn't there yesterday, so the sub started it for them. They have to write down the differences between it and the movie, which you and I know are a lot!
Most of my boys were satisfied with the ending of the book---Ewell got what he deserved by the guy who was the underdog.
Most of the girls want a sequel---they want to know how the kids turn out, how the people put the "town" back together again, etc.
Have you ever read the biography that was finally permitted to be written? It's titled Mockingbird, A Portrait of Harper Lee by Charles J. Shields. The first two chapters are slow, but then I got into it and found it interesting and helpful.

I came by for a visit to see how close you were and here you are, finished also. It always feel just a little bit out of place...like it's not really happened and how did it get here so fast?
But having the summer stretched out before us seems like a treat. ~ doesn't it?

What is this about a heart monitor? I guess I should back up and read to catch up. I haven't been myself for a while now and am just now out visiting favorite blogs.

Oh yeah... I wanted to share with you that I have an Aticus (as in Finch) on my roll for next year students. Can't wait to see that one.
Love and Blessings to you sweet gal! ~ katie
