Ten Things For This Past Week

These are the things I am thankful for this week.  Week # 3.  (The goal here is 10 a week until I hit 1,000.)

1.  Computers.  They keep us in touch with people.

2.  Piggy backing on number 1--about a dozen sophomore boys and their families went together and bought a laptop for their friend, JV.  JV is 16 years old and has cancer.  He has his first chemo treatment today.  In pediatrics, the first treatment is usually the worst.  He has 17 more treatments after this.  The laptop will allow him and his friends to skype, facebook, and stay in touch.  I cried when I heard what they had done for him.  I teach really good people--and I'm reminded of that daily.

3. Green grass. (Even if it does need mowed.)

4. Clothes for little girls.  I bought my granddaughter (arriving in August) pink Mary Jane's for newborns and a pink sundress.  I love the clothes for little girls.  I love little girls!

5.  Actually, I like big girls, too.  K, L, and their friend E arrived at my house at 3:00 AM to watch Will marry Kate.  We had a pajama party with scones, lemon curd, macaroons, and tea.  (Oh, and Breakfast Pizza, too--K's contribution!)

6.  Panera's orange scones.  Actually, I'm just pretty fond of Panera. Period.

7. Family traditions.  I remember watching JFK's funeral on TV with my family.  (In fact, Dad bought a TV so we could watch it.)  I watched Robert Kennedy's funeral, Richard Nixon leave Washington, and Jackie Kennedy's funeral.  I've been to a couple of presidential funerals in person.  I haven't seen a coronation on TV, but this was my 2nd Royal Wedding.  My girls still remember a snow day and watching Bill Clinton's Inauguration when they were in grade school.  I learned to pay attention to what was going on in the world when I was a kid.  Now my girls do the same thing.  This is history, and we have access to it.

8.  Constant Comment Tea by Bigelow.  Love it!

9. The Mr.'s surgery to have his gall bladder out is finally scheduled for this coming Friday.  He is tired of being nauseated.  He'd like to feel better.  His wife would like him to feel better, too.

10.  Friendship.  K's girlfriends are having a girl's weekend and baby shower combined.  Little sisters were invited, too.  The friendship of these four girls has stood the test of time. K and M started in pre-school.  J joined them in Middle School, while B arrived in High School.  They went through college years, early career days, and weddings.  They've stood by each other each step of the way.  Now they are moving into the baby years.  And they are still celebrating together.

I can't believe this is the last day of  April.  I'd like life to slow down a bit right now, but the end of the school year is always a sprint.  I'll have to catch my breath in June!

Quite a lot to be thankful for!

As for the pink, my daughter has had enough of pink to last her a lifetime. She really appreciates when someone buys Abby something in another color (hard to find in 0-3 and 3-6 months, though--I've tried.)

That is so sweet of those guys and their families to buy the laptop.
So cool that y'all had a wedding party! I thought Kate was a beautiful bride and that it was such a fairytale wedding. Just beautiful.
Glad the surgery is scheduled. After it's over, he won't realize how bad he felt (even before the attacks!).

Panera's Mac&Cheese can melt any trouble away! (Except maybe the Mr's. So glad he has his surgery scheduled, finally! Early well-wishes!)
