Thus Sayeth The Doc

Prognosis:  Fluid in my ear.  Not infection.  Just fluid sloshing up against my eardrum and sending shooting pains through my ear every few minutes.

Prescription:  Steroid nasal spray.  I'm not a big fan.  If I have to start shaving, I'm really not going to be happy.

Oh.  And a new pain killer.  I'm to give the Ibuprofen a rest.

Is this allergies or a cold that never really left me?  Neither one of us is sure.

And that's why we pay him the big bucks?

I thought you said it was fluid in your e-a-r-s. Silly Doctor. Glad it was nothing more serious. Feel better soon!

I think it is behind my eardrum. He could only see it in one ear--and the left ear did feel better by the time I got in on Monday morning. Saturday, they were both bad.

Well, if it's any consolation, I really appreciate you mentioning the amount of suffering uninfected fluid has caused you. Most kiddos with Down syndrome have eustachian tubes that are angled to not allow fluid to drain. So they have almost constant fluid behind their eardrums unless they get tubes. It always seems hard to choose tubes when they haven't had an official ear infection, but knowing how uncomfortable fluid is makes the decision a bit more informed.
LC's getting set #3 in a few weeks and her nurse (who is in her late 30's) just got her own tubes placed. So, if you want to tag along to St. Louis and get your own set, you're cordially invited. Plus you get a free board book if you're brave.

Eek, I hope the spray works.

I loved the shaving comment! My son was worried when I had to go on hormones after the hysterectomy that I would get lots of facial hair--he wasn't sure how he would handle a mom with a mustache(he was a young college boy then)!
Fortunately I'm still mustache free--no shaving here either.

You may not have to shave, but you may be able to bench press 250lbs easily or play professional sports.

Even when you are hurting you find the funny. I'm sorry about your ear but for some reason, I think your doctor is happy about it.
