From the Soapbox

Drugs.

I have to say that it is incredibly painful to watch some wonderful kids make stupid decisions concerning the use of recreational drugs.

They always say it is no big deal.  Yeah, right.

I have seen more kids screw up their lives with illegal drug use than any other thing. Shocking when there seems to be so many ways for kids to screw up their lives these days.  Drug use still ranks number one.

The kid can have all the potential in the world; and drug use leaves them in trouble with the law, broke, and able to contribute little to their family, employer, or community.  Sometimes it leaves them dead or harming others.  They drain our resources.

And if they are fortunate enough to "get away" with drug use themselves; you can almost bet that their offspring will either be affected with learning disabilities OR go on to follow their example.  Having children with major drug problems is not what most (any?) parents wish for their children.

I'm sure there are exceptions.  I just know of very few, if any.

And that is my rant for today.  Glad I got that off my chest.

(Yes, at least one of my classes heard that little speech yesterday.)

Oh, and don't get me wrong--not all learning disabilities are caused by drug use. Drug use just increases the odds.

It's good for kids to hear it from an adult other than their parents. Thanks for caring about them enough to "preach" a little bit.

It's a great message for your kids to hear, over and over and over again.

I have this same rant on a regular basis. So frustrating to me when kids make bad choices!
