Christmas Eve and a Holy Night

Today will be spent icing cookies with three little girls and a couple of big ones.  We'll dip some pretzels and make some fruit loopers.  Hopefully, there will be energy left to tackle three gingerbread houses.  We shall see.

Most of my cooking for Christmas breakfast and dinner can be done the day before.  This is one day a year where I spend quite a bit of time in the kitchen.  (I can cook; I just don't love to.)

It will be a low key day for Easy Street.  Quite unlike Dad and B on a west bound train for California, or Little Big Brother and family headed to London for the week, we are homebodies this year.

Tonight, we will head off to Tiny Town Methodist for a candlelight Christmas service that always ends the same:  communion and ringing the sanctuary with candlelight passed from person to person.  The ritual is one I know well.  The church of my childhood did the same on Christmas Eve--though Santa used to put in an appearance and hand out bags of candy, too.

So, we're home for the holidays this year.  And that's OK.  It happens to be one of my favorite places to be.

If you know me, you know I'm a fan of CBS Sunday Morning and Charles Osgood.  Frequently during the holidays, he plays and sings piano.  He's not a professional, but I look forward to it every year.  This year's song?  Appropriately enough, "I'll Be Home For Christmas."

Merry Christmas!
