Year in Review 2012

When I think back on 2012, I remember the elections, a congress that is horribly out of touch with how most of the people in our country live, and the tragedies. It seemed like a lot of former students died in 2012.  The Mr.'s surgery complications and L's pneumonia were scary times, too.

BUT...

Little Lady Bug is always the bright spot.  She talks to us on the phone now.  And...she's learned to open my front door and walk outside, so the fun times are only beginning.  Little squirt!  Her mommy and daddy are pretty smitten with her, though her smarty attitude and sassy behavior frustrate them on occasion.  (She acts a little too much like both of them!)

L bought a house in Big City.  It is a lovely little home, and we were quite proud of her keeping it in her teaching salary price range.  (In fact, her payment is a bit less than her rent was.)  She's also met a really nice guy.  CB often reminds me a bit of the Mr.  He takes pretty good care of her.  (During the pneumonia scare, he is the only reason I didn't worry more.)  He cooks, scrapes frost/ice off of car windows for her, and pretty much spoils her.

I managed to check one major thing off my Bucket List this year:  I visited New York City.  And I loved every minute of it.  I'm pretty sure I'll never get the Mr. there, so I am going to have to arrange a girls/cousins/friends trip to go back and see some of the things I missed.

There was a lot of theater in our lives this year, both the plays I directed and the summer theater shows.  We balanced all of that out with college football season tickets and all the local and televised sports I could stand.  Compromise is a good thing.

So, what will I remember?

Ground Zero, NYC Library, Grand Central Station, Rockefeller Center
Buggy hugs and kisses
Cleaning, sorting, selling, and giving away a lot of "things"
West Point Graduation
Directing "Curtain Going Up" and "Beauty and the Beast"
L's pneumonia scare
The Mr.'s surgery and shingles
Several books-- Insurgent, Girl in Translation, The Selection
The Judge Robing ceremony for Little Big Brother
Baxter's first health scare
Celebrating my 55th birthday with my students
Two movies-- Lincoln and Les Miserables

There were a few too many sad or scary times in 2012 for my taste.  Let's hope 2013 is full of more fun and less worry--for all of us!

And in the words of Tiny Tim:  God bless us, every one!

Happy New Year, Mrs. E! I'm with you: This grandparenting gig is pretty great. My best to you as we begin a new year. Every time I drive by the Chapman exit on the way to Topeka, I think about you. Maybe this will be the year we meet in person.

Lots of love to you Mrs E for a fabulous 2013 and for keeping me company over at Dolliedaydream this past year!

It's been a busy one with Luca as I'm sure it has with your gorgeous granddaughter :-)

Cheers xxx
