The Life of the Elementary Teacher

As a high school teacher, I never get letters like the one L received. "Will you come to my soccer game?" Of course, she is a Miss E, but to first graders--everyone is a Mrs. And how could she ever turn down a student named Daisy? (What a sweet name!)
So last weekend we headed out to the soccer fields. It just so happened that another one of L's first graders was on the opposing team. First graders playing soccer is a bit like a Rugby scrum. Everyone just chases the ball. Well, except for when Daisy was playing goalie and spent most of her time adjusting her gloves! They were adorable. Watching the parents and siblings was even more fun. And Racelin and Daisy were so thrilled to see their teacher there that they waved and waved from the field--while the game was in progress! Oh, to be so loved by your students!
Miss E and her two soccer stars!
So this week we made the trip to see L's 1st graders in their music program. Since L teaches in a school with a lot of military students, it is always touching to look in the crowd and see a lot of single parents since the spouse is in Iraq. When this pajama clad group sang a military lullaby "Twinkle, Twinkle March," it was hard not to tear up. It was the military parent's lullaby, much like a marching chant. I looked in the audience to see a lot of parents pretty choked up, too. Teaching High School has its moments. L just has a lot more of them!

That is sweet that L went to the soccer game. Little kids get so excited to see their teacher outside of school and to have her come to their game must have been extra exciting! This post and this beautiful day reminds me of when my kids were little and playing soccer. Thank you for the sweet memory!

You're right. I do like it. This is such a picture of my life, too. Only now I get to enjoy having my daughter with me all day long. She's a first grader and I am just finishing up my first year in second grade after seven years in fourth. It's so good to meet you. Thank you so much for stopping by and for your lovely comment.
