Fall Weekend, Books, Give Aways

Our favorite tree On today's agenda: my students are loading on a bus to travel to the golf course club house to take the PLAN test. (Part of the ACT program) Trailer school doesn't have a room big enough or enough rooms available for the 3 hour test. That will take most of our "short" day. We release at 1:00.

The reason for the early release: Parent/Teacher conferences from 4:00 to 7:30. These are held in the Cafagymatorium.

At 7:30 I am driving a couple of hours to a friend's house. B & I met in 1st grade and have been good friends ever since. Tomorrow, we are meeting J, a friend I met my Freshman year of high school. (B & J met in 7th grade, during the two years we had moved away from the farm.) Both of these friends were bridesmaids at my wedding. We still get together once a year for "our" weekend. We're headed to B's lake condo.

I'm taking a personal day, so I'm leaving plans for the substitute and crossing my fingers.

The Mr.'s on his own. I'm not quite sure how he'll get along without me. (yeah right!) He is tailgating with K, CT, and a good friend from Tiny Town before the U game on Saturday.

L is headed to Philadelphia. A boy and a free plane ticket are the reason. He is a friend from college days, a 'sometimes' date in recent years, and a relationship that was just beginning when he was transferred across the country.

A new book series is making the rounds of our students: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I finished the first book and can understand why the students are enjoying this futuristic view of the USA. The second one is Catching Fire, but the 3rd isn't due out until next year. (I hate that! I want to read them all together. Waiting on the Harry Potter books killed me!)

The Tiny Town librarian finally chased down a copy of Living Like Hepburn in a Hilton World by Jordan Christy. I've only read a couple of chapters: "Stupid Girls" and "Keep Your Chin Up and Your Skirt Down" but am thinking it could be a handbook for high school and college girls.

I'll be without the Internet for a few days. You can still leave a comment for the give away here. (After tomorrow it will be too late!) And you have until Sunday if anyone is linking a writing here. The writing really is as easy as it sounds. I'll post an example tomorrow for all you fearful writers out there, though this assignment hardly displays much writing ability! Short of not doing it, it is impossible to fail.

Cafagymatorium!

I love that you and your girlfriends still meet up once a year. That is so awesome!

Those books are on my too read list but I'm not starting them until after the wedding. I typically like to have the entire series so I can read thru them all at once!

Have fun!

I'd add "The Book Thief" by Marcus Zusak to your reading list if you haven't had the pleasure.

It's stunning.

Have a great weekend!

I've heard good things about The Book Thief, although it hasn't made its way to the top of my To Read list yet (which is 40+ books long, no wonder). I'll add the Collins' books to it AND the "Hepburn" book sounds like a great read. I adore Katharine Hepburn. Her autobiography is a pretty good read, too. OH! And I just finished reading Blindspot by Jane Kamensky and Jill Lepore. I HIGHLY recommend it. (Although NOT for your students. I could tell you why but it might spoil it a bit.)
