Pink Thoughts

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Christina over at Soul Aperture invited people to post a picture of pink every week during October. I'm glad to participate. I have several friends and acquaintances who are survivors: Aunt Linda, Janice, Susan, Mary, Terra, and even blog friend, Dandy. October is also Down Syndrome Awareness Month. I've only had the chance to get to know three Down Syndrome children and each has been a girl.
.
The first was Laura. I was her babysitter when I was an 8th grader and she was two. Sometimes they hired me just to read to her so her language skills would improve. Laura was so loving and happy. I have thought of her often through the years.
.
The second is Beth, the daughter of my best friend from grade school days. I'm actually going to see Beth in just a few weeks when her mom and I meet up for a girls' weekend. Beth is 23 now. Her big sister and idol got married this summer. I can't wait to hear Beth's take on the wedding.
.
I haven't met the third in person, but have met her through blog world. I taught LC's mom, and absolutely love getting to know LC through videos and pictures. She is a cutie patootie. And her mother shares the joys of LC. (There are a lot of joys!)
.
So pink this month is for these girls, too. Here's to survival, to life, and to joy!

Pink thoughts to you and your kind words. Pink is such a beautiful colour and seems fitting for these beautiful girls.
