Random Dozen Again

Linda over at 2nd Cup of Coffee posted this week's Random Dozen. Here we go.

1. Which Wizard of Oz character are you most like?
Definitely Dorothy. "There's no place like home." I think that, too. She's been through a tornado; our town is still reeling from that one. I used to have braids many, many moons ago. Oh, and I love red shoes!

2.When you're deciding what you are going to wear each morning, which item do you select first and why?
I own fewer slacks, so I usually choose those first and then figure out what top to wear.

3. What kind of animal do you think the world could live without?
Mice, rats--anything in the rodent family! Ugh!!

4. How many Christmas trees are in your home?
Only one this year. Now that the girls are gone, I don't put up the downstair's tree.

5. Would you prefer to be emotionless if it meant you didn't have to feel a heartbreak?
Nope. I'll take the good and the bad; the sorrows and the joy.

6. Do you ever experience holiday let-down or depression?
The lack of light after the holiday lights come down always gets to me. I light a lot of candles and try to keep a ficus tree with lights.

7. Do you like Michael Jackson's music?
Yes. He was part of my childhood. I grew up with him.

8. Why is it we never judge people who have their teeth fixed for cosmetic reasons. but every other cosmetic procedure has a stigma?
I have no idea. Maybe because we don't know if the braces are corrective for the bite or jaw or so teeth can come in. Other cosmetic surgeries are more for vanity. Few are necessary for health. Dental work is a lot less invasive than going under the knife??? I'm just guessing!

9. Enjoy horse back riding?
I haven't ridden in years, but I like horses-- especially that horse/saddle smell.

10. Shoes--practical or stylish?
Comfort always wins over cute. To put a spin on an old quote--"If my feet aren't happy-nobody is happy!"

11. What was the name of your first pet?
I think it was a black dachshund named Lucy. Although when I was really little, I remember a dog named Bingo. ???

12. What percentage of your Christmas shopping is done?
99%. I shop for a little something for the Mr.'s mom. That is it. Our immediate family is taking a trip for part of Christmas vacation. (The gift of time together.) My extended family is gathering at the farm for food and fun. That is it. This might have been the best decision we ever made. None of us need more 'things;' 'things' that will end up on garage sales in six months. We might not remember what we received for Christmas three years ago, but we will remember the Christmas of sledding behind the 4-wheeler or the road trip and fun of seeing a different part of the country together.

And there you have my very random dozen!

Christmas vacations are a great idea. You are so right about getting more "stuff."

I LOVE your idea for Christmas this year. I've been trying to get my husband on board for something like that for a decade now. He will have NO PART of going away for Christmas! The REST of the family is all for it though! I hope you guys have a BLAST!!!

I love the family trip...we did that two years ago and it was one of our favorites. We've been out of the country for several years so our families are looking forward to celebrating Christmas with us. I'm having my whole family here for a few days and that will be fun. Crazy but fun.

I think that is such a great idea to change the focus of Christmas away from giving things, and to the gift of time together.
