Random Thoughts and Lake Wobegone

Lid at 2nd Cup of Coffee posted this random dozen questions for the week.
1. So I was thinking about how Jon Bon Jovi never seems to age much. His hair is smaller nowadays, but he still manages to look like a boy somehow. And then that made me think of the story of Dorian Gray. Question: If you physically lock in one age for yourself, which would you choose and why?

I'll take 18 or 19.  The hair didn't need coloring.  I was running quite a bit.  Yep--physically that's where I'd be.  Mentally and emotionally, well that is another story.

2. What is the best dish that you cook or bake (your piece de resistance?)

I'm not sure I have one.  I am an OK cook at best.  Does rum slush count?

3. When you feel blue, what is one strategy you use to help yourself back to normal?

Exercise almost always works.  I go for a walk or a bike ride.  Good endorphins follow.

4. When was the last time you danced in public?

I'm sure it was at a wedding several years ago.

5. Do you consider yourself a realist or dreamer?

I think we've done this one before.  I am a realistic dreamer.  Feet on the ground.  Head in the clouds.  (Which is probably better than the other way around!)

6. As a parent, what is one thing that you have done well?

I've always had a pretty good relationship with the girls.  They never seemed afraid to say what they were thinking.  The trick was to let them talk when they couldn't see my face.  (Walking after dark, after the lights were out, or while I was driving the car)  That way they couldn't see how shocked I was by what they were saying!

7. Which is your favorite character on the Andy Griffith show?

Floyd cracks me up, but the younger years of Opie are priceless!

8. On a scale of 1-10, how much do you know about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.?

About a 6 or 7.  I need to read a good biography of his life.

9. Have you never been mellow? Have you never tried … to find a comfort from in side you? (Sorry, Jorge was singing that song just now, and it just seemed to be perfect timing as I was creating this week’s questions.) REAL question: What is your #1 driving pet peeve?

People who don't use their turn signals.  (Mr. are you listening?!)

10. Which color best represents your mood today? Care to elaborate?

Red.  I'm pretty much a red girl every day.  My "hyper" level is usually about a 7.  Little things can make me happy or enthusiastic.  Little things can also flip my switch and set me off.  (You can ask my students!)

11. If your spouse were an animal, which would he/she be?

A Golden Retriever.  He is eager to please, a loyal friend, and always happy to see me!

12. What activity takes up the bulk of your time on an average day?
It's a toss up between computer (blogs, facebook, school network) and sleeping.  I like both a lot, but for different reasons!

On a side note:
"News from Lake Wobegone where the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and the children are all above average."Garrison Keillor

A friend loaned me a copy of Pontoon by Garrison Keillor. I always like the way Keillor tells a story. I could almost hear his folksy voice telling this tale. When I got to the end of the book, I was laughing so hard that I was bawling.

Since the Mr. was watching a football game, he wasn't that appreciative of my hee hawing. I just couldn't get it back together. Every time I'd think I was done, I'd read another line or two and was gone. Holding it in didn't work: I snorted!

When I finally finished the book, I had to grab kleenex. My face was wet with tears and my nose was running. I haven't laughed like that in a long time.  And I'm thinking the Mr. is hoping that it stays that way.  Well, at least until the Superbowl is over!

I agree with your comment about Jon Bon Jovi. Must be his long time relationship which keeps him grounded. He is still a honey though - age has been kind to him.

Good answers on #1 and #6, and I totally agree with the color red. I love it too!

I think you should do a post on that whole rum punch thing - sounds delish - and note that I am writing this at 7 in the morning. We have no school AGAIN today, so maybe that's why. I am taking that piece of advice about not letting your girls see your face - good one methinks!

I can relate to that parenting "in the dark" thing :-)

Really enjoyed your answers and smiling/laughing through them. If laughter is good medicine, the Random Dozen is better than an apple a day.

Mrs. e, I had to laugh out loud at #11! Does Mr. e know that's how you answered?

I didn't think about exercise, but it always does put me in a better mood. I should try it more often!!

Loved # 6...I'll have to give that a try!

Loved your color description! :)

I never thought about sleeping! I'd say that takes the bulk of my time too. And we're all happy about that!

I love #2 and #6 and #10 and #11 and... :)

As for Lake Wobegone, that's quite a recommendation! I will have to add it to my To Read pile. I am almost through with Elegance of the Hedgehog. It's quite good, but I know a lot of it is sailing right over my head.
