Tuesday Tunes- "My Wish" for my sophomores (past and present)

Every once in awhile you run across one of those songs that you feel just had to be written by a teacher. This is one of them.  (L uses it every year in the end-of-the-year video that she makes for her 1st graders.)

I really couldn't wish much more for the students I've just spent an entire year with.  (Yes, I just ended that sentence with a preposition.  Do as I say, not as I do!) The students are so much a part of our lives for that year, and then they are off to new classrooms- new worlds.  A part of me goes with them, but a part of them stays with me, too.  It's a pretty good trade off.

At Trailer High, any student who passed the State Assessment in Math gets to opt out of finals and miss the last two days of school.  That means today is the last day for most of my sophomores. Another class of sophomores is headed out the door of my room for good.  I'm sending good thoughts with them.  And they don't get much better than this classic by Rascal Flatts, "My Wish."

Oh, mrs. e, I love that song. They played it at my daughter's 5th grade graduation breakfast and it always makes me tear up.

C, I always love to read your blog, but your song today and the comments the last few days have been very special to me. Maybe because I'm also a teacher, maybe because I so admire your writing, or maybe because I am missing my daughter so much. I hope you have a wonderful summer vacation. Please keep writing.BJB

What a wonderful way to part! I'm usually so stressed out with grading projects and notebooks that I don't always take the time to say a proper good-bye.
Thanks for the elbow in my ribs ---I need to loosen up and find time at the end.
I too love this song.
My junior general English students are going to present the song they each put in their poetry books. They have to play it for us, explain what they think it means, and tell why they like it.
I've ruled out even minor cuss words. I said if the Rolling Stones could write songs without profanity, then other artists should be able to also. They must seek and find!

What a bittersweet day for you, Mrs. E! You've been looking forward to the end of the year for so long, but I know it has to be tough, too.

Someone had that song on youtube after the tornado hit my husband's hometown, but they had to change the song due to copyright issues. I still think of that video every time I hear it.

This song is great and completely capture what is usually found in a teacher's heart on the last days of school. I love you for being that person!
