The Joys of Morning Exercise

I am about to finish out the Couch Potato to 5K program for about the 4th time.  That means I wog (walk + jog = wog)  two and a half miles this week, then finish with three mile runs (or wogs in my case) next week.  Their plan only has you running three times a week.  On "off" days I walk.

This morning was an off day.  Baxter, the Mr., and I headed out at 5:00 AM.  We are two blocks from home when I see something dart across the street. Something about the way it ran caught my attention.

Me:  Is that a skunk?

Mr.:  Noooo... it's a cat.  (pause)  Nooooo...by gosh, that is a skunk.

We stop, rein in Baxter, and watch the little critter run through the Bed and Breakfast driveway.

Lovely.  Just lovely.

And when I'm running by myself, do I pay close enough attention to animals around Tiny Town?  No.  Am I going to do better?  I sure hope so.

Getting sprayed by a skunk would not be my idea of a "reward" for getting my exercise for the day.

And before I forget:  Happy Birthday to the Little Big Brother today!  His birthday present arrived the other night.  His oldest son and my West Point nephew arrived home for summer vacation...finally!!  His oldest daughter and summer chem student is due home later this week.  Hail. Hail.  The gang is almost all here, or it will be by the end of the week!

I'm off to the pool today.  In this heat, the water feels pretty good--as long as I drink a lot of water, too!

Stay cool on this toasty Tuesday!

I love walking, but would not like crossing paths with skunks, pretty as they may be. :). I have a special place to walk, 1/2 mile around. The most times I have looped is 6 times. That is pretty good for me..:) Gerry

Yes, I almost hit a skunk the other day---right in town of all places. Having it on your body would be horrible, but I wouldn't want that stink on my SUV either. Sounds like a good time brewing with family returning.:)

My dad recently caught a skunk in a live trap he had set up to catch the raccoons that had taken up residence in his machine shed. He managed to release it with only getting his boots and pant leg sprayed. To date he has caught one raccoon, the tom cat, and one skunk.

Yikes! We had a dog that got sprayed by a skunk many years ago. It was not pretty. Have fun at the pool today!

Ohmygoodness! Even the bloggy content might not be worth it! I'm sure he was just running late and you were running early and you won't see him again. (Did that sound convincing at all?) :)

I've often wondered about the girls chasing things when I first let them out in the morning, especially when I can smell a skunk. Now that I've mentioned it, it'll probably happen!

It won't be pretty if Baxter and that skunk were to wrap it up:)
