Tuesday Tune- "100 Years" by Five For Fighting

I love this song!  I loved it before it was part of the Chase Bank commercial.  I loved it before I knew who or what "Five For Fighting" was.

First of all, there is almost nothing I enjoy more than a really good pianist--and this guy, John Ondrasik, is great.  He is a one man band.  The fact that he plays and sings at the same time is impressive.  (And why, oh why, did I ever quit taking piano lessons?!!)

Then I researched and found out that the name "Five For Fighting" comes from the fact that if you are fighting in ice hockey, you have to spend five minutes in the penalty box.  And Ondrasik is a hockey nut!

Finally, I teach 15 year olds.  They are turning 16 during the course of the year, and most of them can only look ahead and wish they were 18 (graduating) or 21 (drinking).  They don't realize that it doesn't get much better than being 15 with your whole life ahead of you.  The decisions and choices they are making right now will determine just how amazing (or not) those lives will be.

So here is one of my favorite performers and favorite songs:  "100 Years" by Five For Fighting.

"15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only have 100 years to live."

Perspective about age has a way of changing as WE age, doesn't it? We're careful not to wish our lives away any more. I love this song, too! Thanks for sharing the video.

I like how you fixed the grammar error "When you only have (got) 100 years to live." *wink*

I wasn't familiar with this song, actually. Love the piano, too.

You are so right about the decisions being made right now at 15 and how those decisions really do determine a whole lot. If teachers spent all their time just convincing students of the importance of this, it would be worth more, in the end, than all the grammar and geometry and algebra in the world...
