I've been grading "Our Town" tests. An essay question asks about the theme of "Our Town." A student writes:
"Don't take life for granite."
So life isn't a rock? Really?
And I saw that answer more than once. More than twice. More than three times.
*sigh*
Spelling lesson on tap for today!

If the students I work with (first graders) wrote it that way, I would be pleased, but I understand your feelings.
It's a little bit comforting, somehow, that students never, ever change. ;)
Oh my. It's just further proof that spell check doesn't solve all writing ills.
Is it dialect, too? Don't be too hard on them! :D
I disagree with the last commenter. I would bring the house down on them. Please!
He He...I think the unintended lesson that life is not a rock is kinda good!
I've missed you, glad to be back.
giggle...I might not ever be able to use that expression again without thinking of this post. kinda cute.
Oh that's classic! And cringeworthy. I bet you made your students blush!
