Moving Day At Last

This song has been running through my head for most of the last few weeks.  It is the chorus to a Brooks and Dunn song--and seems so appropriate for Trailer High.

Oh, look at us today.
Oh, we've come such a long, long way.

I'm proud of this house we built.
It's stronger than sticks, stones, and steel.
It's not a big place sittin' up high on some hill.
A lot of things will come and go but love never will.
Oh, I'm proud.
I'm proud of this house we built.

Today the staff of Trailer High is moving into our brand new, absolutely beautiful building.  The Middle School and the Elementary School are moving into their new buildings, too.  Volunteers are coming to Tiny Town to help with the transfer.

We have been anticipating this day for 2 1/2 years.  This move means the world to the students and staff.  It means a lot to our community.  We've been through absolute devastation, and we've survived.

Still, we've learned through all of this that the school isn't a building. The school is the people:  the kids, teachers, and staff.  "A lot of things come and go, but love never will."

Reasons we're proud...

*Students of Trailer High have made the State Standard of Excellence in both English and Math for the past 5 years.

*This year Trailer High was one of only 17 high schools in our state to receive the Governor's Achievement Award for our performance on State Tests.

And all of this while school went on in a construction zone, in trailers, walking blocks between classes in snow and rain, and in less than ideal testing conditions.

Yes, I'm proud of the "house" we've built.  I was proud of it in the old building, proud of it in the trailers, and I'm so very proud of it today. We have come a long way.  We have an amazing new building, but we're lucky enough to know our school isn't a building.  It never has been, and it never will be.

But for today, a brand new building awaits.  It will soon be full of staff and kids and community--all proud of the house we've built.  Education continues. We have survived... and the love will live on.

Pretty terrific, isn't it?

I think Tiny Town is the embodiment of what lives in our hearts when we dream: Hope, pride, hard work, community, sacrifice, kindness, and understanding. Thank you for letting us share in the journey!

So incredible! Y'all have so much to be proud of. It's good that something good could come out of something so horrific.
