The Grandma Tradition

Just a year ago this week, the girls were making cookies and candy with Grandma E; a month later, she was gone.

Making goodies with Grandma had become an annual tradition.  The Mr.'s mom used to be a great cook, but she wasn't able to do much in the last few years.  I don't know when the girls started this tradition, but it was an annual trip that all three of them looked forward to and loved.  The girls bought and carted all the supplies with them to make Grandma's favorite Christmas treats.  She would sit at her kitchen table and give instructions, while the girls cooked.  She was a notorious taste-tester, too.

Besides making Grandma's apartment smell like her old home for a day or two, they had some wild times.  The girls would be giggling and telling stories of it for months.

Grandma loved it, too.  She was able to spend half a day with her granddaughters and make plates of goodies to give to her friends and neighbors. Besides that, for just a little while, she was transported back to the days when she made these same holiday treats for her kids and grandkids.

Since Mom E isn't here to continue the tradition, we are continuing it for her.  K, L, and the Bug are having a goodie making day on Easy Street with this Grandma today.  I'm sure there will be lots of laughing and talking and tasting, much as there had been with Grandma E. We will miss her, but part of her will live on in the laughter and baking on Easy Street.

And another circle goes unbroken and begins the spiral into the future.

What a nice thing for your daughters to do for and with their Grandma. I hope you're all having a blast today. Hugs.
