Definitely a New Year

After an ankle injury, a new grade level to teach, and a horrible bout with pneumonia, I'm pretty sure by July-- L could have washed her hands of 2012.

The only good thing?  She met a man with the blog name of CB.

He saw her through the pneumonia.  (He even called her parents when he was really concerned--and hadn't even met us yet.)

Then she began teaching kindergarten and absolutely loved it.

She bought a house.  She later referred to it as a money pit (too many things weren't working quite right), but CB helped her figure out the bugs, fixed a few things, and she is back to loving it.

A few days into 2013, she found out she was voted Teacher of the Year at her Elementary School.

And then yesterday, she texted a picture of her left hand which was sporting an engagement ring.  CB had asked her to marry him.

I'd say things are looking up for Ms. L.

Of course, there are concerns.  Both have been married before.  L will now have stepchildren.  They will deal with interracial marriage issues; possible family or friends who don't see life quite like they do, quite like we do.

I want life to be trouble free for her, and yet she's dealt with problems before--and will again.

And then I remember:  CB warms up cars and scrapes windows.  He cooks. He makes coffee.  He carries heavy things, and he cleans.  He goes out of his way to make life easier for L.

He worries about L and takes good care of her.

Marriage is never trouble free, but you tip the scales in your favor if you do your best to take good care of each other.  They do.

"Love is what is left in a relationship when all the selfishness has been removed."

And then I don't worry.

Congratulations L and CB.  Wishing only the best for both of you!

I know how you feel. I've been there with my daughter. It took her three tries before she got a really wonderful guy who adores her and looks out for her as does she him. When she finally quit trying to fix men, got out of an abusive cycle, and finally let it sink in that she deserved a good man, he was right there---had been for five years and had witnessed the first two disasters.
I'm happy for all of you and am glad that you can know someone is out there with her, watching out for her---most every mother's dream.

Congratulations to L!!! I don't know about where you are, but around here the inter-racial "thing" isn't really a big deal. You don't choose who you fall in love with. If anybody has a problem with it, it's THEIR problem!

Congratulations! That's so exciting! I totally thought those adorable girls could be her stepdaughters when I saw the Christmas photos. Step family is so important to me! My step parents are just as close to me as my biological parents. I wouldn't trade it for anything! Those girls will be lucky to have L as a step mama! O and I hope you are planning to keep us up to date with the wedding plans!
