Ash Wednesday

OK.  I'm going public with it again.  It keeps me honest.

Last year, I gave up Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter for Lent.  I really felt the loss of those things, but gained a little perspective and time.  Today, I don't waste as much time on any of them as I did.  (Though I still enjoy them in small doses.)

Focus and thoughtfulness are my goals for this Lenten season.   So here is the plan...

This year, I am going to eat a Vegan diet from Sunday evening through Friday evening:  no meat, dairy, or eggs.  It will be a challenge.  It requires more thought before grocery shopping and more cooking.  Hmmm....thinking about food before it goes in my mouth.  Novel concept!  And actually cooking--think I'll still remember how?!

I will probably eat Vegan meals on the weekends, too; however, I figure that I will need a few meals a week that insure that I can make it through the other meals of the week.  This is a pretty big change for me.  I haven't done a lot of reading about it, and I figure that there is a learning curve.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I am in two minds about vegan food. I used to go to a restaurant that made just wonderful vegan food. In fact, I didn't realise it was vegan until someone pointed it out, it was just delicious. Then I bought myself a vegan cookbook and .... yuk. I have looked out for good vegan recipes and been unable to find any that I would willingly eat. Maybe you can post any good ones you find? :) I am sure there must be many wonderful vegan recipes out there if they can only be located.

I most definitely not be able to cope without all that good stuff...the only good thing left would be chocolate!! Good luck with it though, you have the determination to do it.

We are going somewhat vegan too. Sofia has a good sensitivity, and I am eliminating dairy as a first course attempt... It's so hard because dairy is in so many things, even the bread! Looks like we'll be spending extra for gluten-free, which is what we are trying for my husband who has some sort of food allergy (although I am not following gluten free as closely as he is... Eating whole grain bagels when he's at work). So far, home made seems to be the route which is good because then it's not processed with hidden ingredients... Pinterest also provides some help recipe and snack wise (for the dairy free and gluten free combo, I've found that paleo diet recipes are good too.) I hope you'll share some of your meal and snack plans... I'll try to make a blog post about ours this weekend as well (I just realized some of mine won't be as applicable to your diet cause we are most definitely eating meat. Not sure my starving breastfeeding self can cut that protein source!)... Good luck! Some people find that it makes such a huge difference in how they feel that they don't go back...
