Spring at the Farm

A week ago when I was out at the farm, the apple tree was in bloom--and just beautiful!
The bees thought it was a terrific hangout, as the tree was abuzz!  I brought a branch of blooms home and enjoyed them most of the week.  I'm glad I happened to be there when it was blooming, as this week the blooms were all gone.  On the other hand, the lilacs were just starting to bloom.

This week, Little Big Brother, Sweet Sister-in-law and I returned to the farm.  Tiny Town people were on a hunt for rocks for some landscaping projects.  Dad was game to let us take some of our childhood memories home with us. (Thanks, Dad!!)  So...
You know how your parents told you your eyes were too big for your stomach when you took too much food?  Well, my eyes were too small for this project!  (I think Little Big Brother's were, too.)  I managed to complete 2/3 of my circle, but need to finish it and then probably need at least one more layer all the way around.  This tree provides so much shade that grass won't grow under it.  I was going to make this a raised flower bed, but decided on mulch and some pots of flowers instead.  (I always forget that when I plant flowers, I am really planting deer food.)

I guess this means another trip to the farm for rocks.  I wonder what will blooming on this next trip.

How neat that you have your family home to visit and collect rocks from. I like the border around your tree. There has to be some kind of deer resistant shade loving plant that will grow under your tree. Check out neighborhood gardens for ideas.

That's a beautiful flowering tree! I saw an azalea bush today that is losing its blooms; it was so pretty last week; now it looks "dirty"!
