Catch Up #1 Short Vacation

The Mr. and I took a quick trip to the Land of Lincoln.  I had been there as a little girl. I don't remember much about that trip, just the tomb and a gold nose. Since this is the 150th anniversary year of Lincoln's assassination, it seemed like a perfect time for a return trip. 

The Lincoln Museum is so interesting and informative. The displays are wonderful, and there are two short movies with special effects that make everything come to life.

 Besides the movies, the other thing that "got" me in the museum was touching the brass casts of Lincoln's hands.  I can't really explain it, but it was quite moving.

 I don't think they let people take pictures inside the tomb when I was little.  Now it is permitted.

Besides the museum and tomb, we visited Union Station which houses memorabilia from the recent Lincoln movie.  The Mr. would have skipped that.  

I enjoyed the Lincoln house--and neighborhood tour.  It is free--and well worth the time.

Springfield, Illinois

Springfield isn't far from Hannibal, Missouri, and the Mark Twain museum, so that was another day on our short vacation.  

Besides taking in the museum and homes, I climbed the stairs to the lighthouse.  The Mr. was about as interested in this as he was the Laura Ingalls Wilder museums, but he was a good sport.  I enjoyed it.  I especially loved all the Twain quotes.

We had a great trip. Well, besides the driver never listening to the navigator! (AND the driver was always in the wrong lane. ALWAYS!)

 

The Mr. needed the time away, and I needed all the new books to add to my reading list. (Not really. I'm not sure I will live long enough to read everything on my list right now!) 

So now the Mr. is back at work with someone to nag him besides his navigator.  And all is right with the world!
