That Time of Year

This is my favorite time of year. I love late summer and early fall. The days are still warm and sunny, but the evenings are cool. I had a grandmother who called this "sweater weather."
And these are the things I love about fall in the Midwest:
  • pumpkins and sunflowers
  • Friday Football nights, cheering on the hometown boys
  • blue jeans and boots
  • flannel sheets
  • turning leaves
  • early morning fog along the river
  • cool, early morning runs
  • smelling woodsmoke in the air
  • homemade soups
  • crisp, crunchy apples
  • scarecrows keeping watch

Fall isn't here yet, but its coming. I can feel it. I can catch a whiff of it in the air. The pumpkins and sunflowers are doing their part. The cooler evenings have arrived. The calendar may still say August, but it won't be long now. The flannel sheets are waiting patiently. And I'm trying to wait patiently, too.

I'm from the midwest but I must be an imposter because I'm not a big fan of the fall or winter. I do enjoy seeing the beautiful array of different colors. The pumpkins and sunflowers are pretty, too. If only we could have all of that without the cold weather that follows it, I might appreciate it more. I'm a spring/summer enthusiast myself. But I'm glad to hear that there will be more people besides my husband that will be enjoying the next few months! :-)

You've inspired me to write a post on fall too. It's actually my favorite time of year.

I love fall. And lucky for me, here in Michigan this summer, it was actually fall for most of the summer. And now, it is fall again. I was born in the fall. Fall is beautiful. I love a fire in the fireplace and soup, as you mentioned and honey crisp apples right off the tree.

I might have to post on fall eventually, too. Even though it's been the going season here for several months. Did I mention that already?

The problem living in Southern California is that we really don't get to experience the seasons. Someday I'll go somewhere I can see the leaves change during the fall :)
