I've always loved August. As a kid, I loved going back to school. I loved the smell of school: all those books, the paste, and the pencil shavings.
When the girls were little, I bet they packed and unpacked their backpacks about twenty times before the first day. We used to go back-to-school shopping with my Mom. She needed supplies for her elementary classroom, but she always bought new folders, stickers, and pencils for the girls, too. They still remember those trips with Grandma.
As a teacher, I love getting to know my classes and planning for the first days. I love the buzz of excitement that fills the halls on the first day back.
In spite of the heat, I still love August. This is really my last free weekend before school begins again. What am I doing? Back-to-school shopping on a weekend getaway, of course!
