Senior pictures are a lot different today.

Throwback Thursday, In Flanders Fields, Etc.

The first day of testing really was an April Fool's joke.  Less than a quarter of the kids finished, and then the system went down. The story is that the State Testing Site was hacked.  It is supposed to be up again today. The fact that this test cycle doesn't really count or matter that much is a good thing. The data would be great, but we might not get the student results on individual standards anyway.  Tiny Town High is going with the flow--and not worrying about the test this year.  Whew! (We're still trying to take them--just isn't a huge deal.  Thank you, State!)

I am teaching "In Flanders Fields" in conjunction with our history teachers. They wanted the students to memorize it.  Since I didn't know it, I am memorizing it, too.  This is me--trying to recall it word for word.

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

I think that might be pretty close.  The hope is that the students will look at the structure of the poem, learn the history of it, but above all-- know why the veterans hand out poppies on Veteran's Day.

The other throwback? I am in research paper h-e-double hockey sticks.  (Aren't I always?)  This year's gems:

*"Mrs. E, is Russia in the United Kingdom?"  Uhm, no. And what you don't know about geography scares me.

*The student who double spaced his paper by double spacing between each word.  I.kid.you.not.  Or, I guess that would be: I  kid  you  not.

You can't make this stuff up, people! (I'd cry if it weren't so darn funny.)

Throwback Thursday

Circa 1976 (I think.)

I think this was my freshman year of college.  We were home visiting at the Mr.'s house.  We must have been headed to church. (Easter?) The outfit was courtesy of my sewing skills.   Yes, I made that lovely (!) plaid jacket and miniskirt.  I think the locket was a Christmas or Birthday gift from Mom and Dad. 

There are a whole lot of "I thinks" in this post.  My mind is going.

Can I just say that I'm glad we can't really see my legs clearly?  I'm not sure what we might see,  Yikes!

And those glasses?  Holy Cow!

Throw Back Thursday

Since Eli was baptized on Sunday, I had to dig out L's baptism pictures.  April 1983.

I showed this picture to the Bug.  She frequently gets in trouble for having her finger in her nose.  I asked her what Mommy was doing in this picture.  She said, "Mommy!  You have your finger in your nose! No!" 

When K sees that, she will have a fit.  But when she sees my hair and glasses in the picture below--she'll forget all about the photo above. I'll be forgiven.

Wow!  Just wow...
