Five!

The Bug turns five today. Five!

These pictures pretty much sum up the Bug: a daredevil, a crazy woman, a good friend, a sweet big sister (when she isn't yelling at her for getting into her things!), and Nana and Papa's girl.

We love you sweet girl!

Happy Birthday, Momma L

L is 31 today.  It is hard to believe.

In the last year, her life has done a 180.  She has married and had a baby.

This new world seems to suit her.  Little Man E is adorable and such a good baby. And she is such a good Momma!

In spite of all the big changes, some things never change.  L is still quite the entertainer.  She was always good at making tense situations evaporate with her crazy sense of humor.  I could be so mad, and yet she would have me dissolving into laughter.  She still can.

Last night's call was about a squirrel that had made its way into L and CB's house.  I'm still chuckling.  There was a time in her life where L might have been quite upset by their adventure, but last night--she was still laughing about the squirrel that sent them all over the edge.

Happy 31st, L! Hope the year ahead is full of more giggles and no more wildlife in the house.  May your days be filled with hubby and Baby E and kindergartners who love their teacher.

We love you, dear girl.  Now celebrate your day by putting your feet up and snuggling that baby!

Five For Fifty Five

I'm always big on lists.  Big ones and small ones, I just like lists.  This one is going to be really small.

Today's the day:  the 55th Birthday.

Five things I plan to enjoy in my 55th year:

1.  My favorite people.  I have plans for days in Big City with L, running and walking with K, snuggling and playing with the Bug, trips to the farm, eating CT's good cooking (though raiding his garden comes to mind!), and camping trips and day trips with the Mr. Oh, and I can't forget quality time with Baxter.  (At least, he thinks he's a person!)

2.  An emptier house.  I plan to sort, sell, and give away a lot of excess on Easy Street.  Then I can paint and work on some other home improvement projects.

3.  Physical activity.  Walking, running, swimming, and biking.

4.  Technology.  The artistic me doesn't have a shred of talent.  Technology allows me to be artistic even with no skills:  photography editing, creating movies, and even creating a book from this blog.  I plan to enjoy technology including Pinterest, Houzz, Twitter, and Facebook.  (Forty days of Lent without Pinterest and Facebook has been tough.)

5. Anything that stretches me:  travel, books, new hobbies, new ideas, and new projects.

Oh, and chocolate and wine.  Always chocolate and wine.
A "girl" is only 55 once.  Might as well go for it!

The Face of 54

Yep.  This is 54.

Most of the time it looks like this:
Reading glasses.

Truly.  It usually looks a whole lot more like this:
*sigh*
Tomorrow:  55
Guess I'll enjoy 54 while there is still time!
 The last day of 54.
(Perhaps I will comb my hair when I am 55. Yikes!)

Birthday Girl

We're celebrating L's birthday on Easy Street.  There will be early morning phone calls and a meeting for dinner out on the town.   Her favorite part of the day will be that the Lady Bug is going to be in on the dinner plans.  Auntie L is fairly smitten.  I have a hunch she will be one of the Bug's favorite people for years to come.
It was love at first sight for those two.  Kind of like it was for me 29 years ago.  And L is still one of my favorite people.  I have a hunch she always will be.

Happy Birthday, L!  We're pretty proud of you--and we're wishing you a wonderful day and year!

Love, love, love you!

Birthday Girl

Somebody is having a birthday on Easy Street.  Thirty-one years ago, I became a mother on this day--and things have never been the same.  And now, for the first time, that baby knows exactly what I mean!

Here was K just a few months before her 30th birthday last year.
And  now one short year later, she's been a mom for just a little over 3 months.

She's running on little sleep, worrying herself sick over every little sniffle, and familiar with every diaper on the market.  She has to hunt for time to shower.  Makeup?  Maybe, if the Bug decides to sleep in.  She can't leave the house without packing a bag fit for a European vacation--and none of it is for her.

On the other hand, every smile and every coo melts her heart into a little puddle.  K's had 3 months of this; I've had 31 years of it.  I know.  And now she does, too!

"To have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside of your body."  Elizabeth Stone

Hard to imagine that you could love such a small person so much, isn't it?  I couldn't believe it was possible either, K. (And just wait until you've had 31 years with her!)

Happy Birthday to my little girl... and many more!

Wonderful Weekend

I had the best weekend.  We met the girls and CT for dinner on Friday night.  They gave me this:
Purses and shoes have always been a weakness.  This might be the most fun purse I have ever owned.  I probably wouldn't have purchased it for myself.  I would have loved it, but thought it was too impractical for me.  (You know, gray or black "boring" is practical.)  Actually, just carrying it makes me happy!  I think I love impractical! I may never buy boring again!

A friend and I went to see the Broadway Show "Avenue Q."  It is an adult puppet show.  The set was wonderful, and the performers were so talented.  It reminded me of a spoof on Sesame Street.  There were some wonderful moments and lyrics.  (The opening song--"It Sucks to Be Me" set the tone!)  I couldn't take my eyes off of the puppets.  That was just a great show.

The rest of my weekend involved a run, a pedicure, church, burning pastures, and riding a four wheeler.

The weekend seemed to have a theme going-- fun!  I enjoyed every minute of it.  Now to carry that over to this week!

Favorite Five This Friday

The Favorite Five From This Week:

1.  I ran three miles yesterday morning in my new shoes and a light sprinkle.  It's probably a good thing that no one else is up at that hour to see the wet t-shirt.

2.  Taking birthday cake to the students was fun.  The kids were really appreciative. It was kind of like taking cupcakes to the class during grade school days. I think a yearly tradition has been born.

3.  My students are writing a paper, sharing a childhood memory.  Our High School kids rarely get to write narratives these days; we usually have them writing persuasive papers.  It's nice to remind kids that writing can be great fun.

4.  On Monday, my last student finished the State Reading Test and met standards.  I was so proud of him.  Only 3.1% of the sophomores were below standards, and no one was in the academic warning category. Woo hoo!

5.  My kid sister, her husband, two of her daughters, and one son-in-law met K while she was in San Francisco at a conference.  They showed her a really good time.  Then, my sister sent me quite a few beautiful posters for my classroom.  K was a sport to bring the heavy poster tube on her return flight.  I now have some of my little sister's amazing photographs as posters.  They each have a quote with the photo.  These huge posters were part of her ice cream store at one time.  I am so excited to frame and display them!

The Mr. is taking the family out tonight to celebrate my birthday.  L and K and CT called and sang to me on my birthday, but we haven't had time to get together.  It will be good to see them and catch up on the latest.

Today is supposed to be warm.  That sounds like heaven.  On the opposite hand is the fact that today is April Fool's Day. Let me just say that there is almost nothing worse than being a teacher on April Fool's.  Heaven-- it's not!  I'll either pretend to fall for the same tired old tricks, or the students will find new ways to torture me.

It's been a great week.  I suppose I can stand one day of utter nonsense.  Let the games begin!

Last Day of March

I had a wonderful birthday yesterday.  I was surrounded by good thoughts and lots of love.  It doesn't get much better than that!

Combine that with the fact that I took a sheet cake for 96 (purchased) to celebrate with my classes.  Kids love to celebrate darn near anything.  The cake was a hit.  My board was covered in birthday wishes.  I had several versions of "Happy Birthday" sung, belted, or crooned to me.  Even the Women's Glee came in to serenade me.  Pretty neat.

At the end of 7th hour, one of my lovely dears decided to play "wedding" cake and shoved his piece of cake into his mouth and most of the icing up his nose.  (I love my job. I love my job. I love my job.)  He is now doing a little time with me today. And I'm not even sure he got the laughs he was going for. (There's always one!)

Sweetest moment.  After every student had left for the day, I found a note on my desk.  A student said since I always give them notes on their birthdays, that she wanted to do the same for me.  My notes to them are on little rectangular slips of colored paper and attached to their folders with a colorful paperclip and a colored pencil eraser.  Summer birthdays get "Valentine" notes.  (An inexpensive way to connect with kids.)  Her note to me was on a rectangular piece of paper with added artistic embellishments.  It's a keeper!

I got home from school to find a phone message from a former colleague.  He played Happy Birthday on his trumpet.  Are you feeling the love?

Don't even get me started on Facebook messages and phone calls from family.  Let me just say that I feel very blessed!

Oh yeah.  The flip side:  Don't let me forget the "official" email I received from an assisted living place in the old hometown.  They said they knew it was hard at my "stage of life" to make these new living arrangements.  Let me just say, Little Big Brother's circle of influence is frightening.  He has to call in a lot of markers or favors to get these people to play his pranks.  But paybacks are coming, LBB. Paybacks are coming.

The birthday is over and now March is, too.  As for April, if my birthday is any indication, I'm expecting nothing but sunshine and flowers!

Time Marches On

Today is my 54th Birthday.  Yep.  Where does the time go?

To quote the song, "Age ain't nothing but a number."  There is some truth to that.

Yet, every year I find myself thinking that the time goes too fast.  I didn't accomplish everything I wanted. Then I pause and remember that I did a lot.  I had a lot of fun.  There is no time for regrets, without wasting the time I've been given.

Here's the list of things I'd like to accomplish in the coming year.

A Baker's Dozen of Things to Do Before I Am 55:

1.  Take several trips
2.  Ride a couple of bike trails
3.  Run in a 5K race (3.1 miles)
4.  Rewrite our curriculum to incorporate the Core Standards
5.  Take a class or two
6.  Create a blog book of tornado memories and stories
7.  Learn to be a grandmother (tough job, I know!)
8.  Visit a new winery or two
9.  Continue working on and revising the Teaching Class Curriculum
10. Enjoy the new technology available
11.  Spend more time outside
12.  Do some needed house repairs and painting
13.  Catch up with family and friends

You might be noticing that some things make my list every year.  There are some things I just like a lot.

How am I celebrating?  I'm taking cake to my classes today.  Yeah.  Feeding them sugar.  What the heck am I thinking?  And tonight, I'm headed to choir practice.

I know what you're thinking:  The fun never ends on Easy Street!

Last Year's List

On my birthday last year I made a list of 53 things I wanted to do before I was 54.  I just pulled it up.  Hmmm...

So here are the results.  The ones I actually did are in red; additional commentary is in blue.

53 Things To Do Before I'm 54

1. Run a 5K  (Not in a race, but on my own.  My first official 5K is April 16th.)

2. Update my wardrobe with skirts, dresses, and pants outfits (I’m not sure jeans and boots are going to work in the new school!)

3. Work a part-time job again this summer

4. Visit an out of state winery (Make that 3 or 4!!)

5. Plan a longer bike ride trip (over 25 miles)  SADLY.  No.

6. Snow ski again  Yea!!!!

7. Add some new vegetables to our garden

8. Plant some perennials (bulbs, peony bushes)  The peony bush is struggling in our clay soil.

9. Try a new photo project

10. Ride in a hot air balloon

11. Attempt something that scares me   Skiing fits this one!

12. Teach in a school building again  Since January- Absolutely the best!!

13. Clean and organize the front hall closet  (How sad is it that it needs it again?!)

21. Update the home games collection (checkers, skipbo, etc.)

22. Take a trip  Or two or three!!

23. Visit a few of the local sites I’ve never seen (Sunday trips?)

24. Sell some household things to weed out a bit more  (Not so much sold, as gave away!)

25. Plan a no-spend month

26. Ride a horse (it has been years)

27. Swim   (Great thing about a part-time job at a pool)

28. Visit a Civil War ground, Presidential Library, or some other historic site  (At least a local one!)

29. Buy the Mr. a piece of cast iron cookware  (He actually got them as a gift--but not from me.)

30. Try to borrow a French horn to play again

31. Eat something I’ve never tried before  (I'm sure there is something.  Maybe the Son-in-laws wild game or brat burgers or something!)

32. Paint the house   Getting closer!

33. Take a class and learn something new  (Inservice and all the new technology in the new building)

34. Wash the windows-- (They are in seriously bad shape!)

35. Visit the local library more often

36. Wear sunscreen every day  (Again with the job at the pool!)

37. Fix up the patio  (New steps thanks to construction tech class at the HS)

38. Pick gooseberries for the first time in 30+ years

39. Make a gooseberry pie, for that matter—make any pie  (No gooseberry, but peanut butter and pink lemonade)

40. Watch one classic movie a month  (I didn't manage one a month--but several!)

41. Take a photography trip

42. Buy a memory chip for my blackberry

43. Drink a martini (never tasted one)   (I don't think I need to do that again!)

44. Carve something into a tree

45. Eat more fish

46. Visit an arboretum

47. Buy a basket for my bike

48. Make jogging a regular part of my routine again  (Three days a week for almost a year!)

49. Clean through the basement storage area  (Almost impossible with L's stash!)

50. Learn to make cakes from scratch

51. Empty the closets of the girls old clothes  (We've done a lot of this.  Goodwill has inherited a bunch.)

52. Write for something besides blog world  (I don't think Facebook counts!)

53. Teach Baxter some tricks and basic obedience commands  (I credit the Mr. with most of this.  BUT.. I did manage to get him to sit and stay.  Rollover also worked as long as there were treats!)

I didn't quite hit 50%.  AND...with the birthday coming up again soon I'm thinking this year I may have to go with 10 or 15 things to try in the coming year.  It's good to have goals or a guideline, but I hate feeling like a failure!!

Truth be told, it is hard to feel like a failure after the year I've just had!  Fifty-three has been good to me!

March 16th

Somebody on Easy Street is having a birthday.  His name is Mr.

In honor of his day, Baxter ate a book.  (I guess that is one way to keep me from reading!)  Happy Birthday, Mr.!  Bax is trying to help you out, I guess.

Also in honor of his day, the church scheduled a meeting--of the long variety.  He happens to be on the committee holding the long meeting.  The last trustees meeting was two and a half hours long.  *groan*  I think they might find following an agenda helpful.  Heck!  Even having an agenda for the meeting might help.  It probably won't happen.  So... while he is at his meeting:  Happy Birthday to the Mr.

I am headed out tonight to replace the book and to find a suitable choice of birthday cake.  (Sounds like I'll have plenty of time while he is in his meeting.)  Happy Birthday, Mr.

I  did manage to surprise him with some swim goggles and a new "manly" beach towel for his morning swim.  His real gift he has to pick out himself:  a new grill.  (I imagine that I just might benefit from that gift myself!)  Happy Birthday, Mr.

I'm pretty much convinced that the Mr. is a gift I gave myself.  They don't come much better in the husband and father department.

He might be a mess sometimes, but I'm glad that mess is mine! (Well, most of the time I am!)

Happy Birthday, Mr.
Love you lots!

I Just Turned Around, K...

You're 30, K?  Really?  Looking back, all I can think is that it goes so darn fast!  The little girl days of thumb sucking, snuggling, playing dress up, and reading stories...
You were the big sister who was always a bit of an "old" soul even back then...

Only yesterday, you and L were flower girls.

"Turn around and you're tiny, turn around and you're grown..."  It all went so fast!

I know you haven't exactly been looking forward to turning 30.  You hate to leave your 20's (the decade of college fun and travel), and yet I know the decade ahead will be full of wonderful memories.  You're making a home with your new husband, making some career changes, and will probably be starting a family in this next decade.  Just remember to enjoy where you are right now.  Every stage of your life should be savored.

"You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days
Hadn't gone by so fast

These are the good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this."
Trace Adkins

Take it from someone who knows, K, someday you are going to realize how incredibly fast it goes.  Sometimes we get so caught up in the milestones and the goals, that we forget it is the day-to-day living that crafts our lives.

Take your time.  I know you have destinations in mind, but enjoy the journey.

Happy 30th, daughter!   Someday when you have a child of your own, you'll know how incredibly loved you are!

Happy Birthday, KS

Today is my kid sister's (KS) birthday.  This will be her last year in this particular decade.

The KS is four years younger than I am.  Most of our lives we were just a bit out of sync.  I was in Jr. High and she was in grade school.  I was in high school; she was in Jr. High.  I was in college; she was in high school.  You get the drift.  And now that we are both mothers of girls and have much more in common, she lives in California and I...don't!  In fact, our adult lives have always found us in different states.  It is pretty much a bummer.

Actually, the KS and I used to play together a lot on the farm.  She loved cats.  I always picture her lugging a cat around.  I'm not a cat lover, but we played paper dolls, hunted for shells, and swam in the creek. (We could tell you some good stories about leeches!)  When we got older, we wore each other's clothes.  (The KS hit her adult height and build in about 6th grade.) We were frequently mistaken for twins.  I didn't mind, but I'm sure she wasn't thrilled.

KS has always been the more daring of the two of us.  She readily admits to having a sassy little mouth when she was younger. But for all of her sass, she had such a tender little heart.  She was definitely the baby of the family.  Charm could get her out of a lot of trouble.  (My guess is that it still does!)

These days my sister is a mother of four daughters, an excellent cook, and a great photographer.  She loves wine and wineries as much as I do.  I hate being so far away from her when we have so much in common. (OK.  Maybe not the cooking, except I do like to eat!)

This is a photo of one of her photos that her husband had mounted onto canvas.  Isn't it amazing?

Hopefully, the KS has received a special package in the mail by now. Dad found Mom's old Betty Crocker cookbook from the 1950's.  I nabbed it the last time I was at the farm.  The book is tattered, worn, and stained.  I am pretty sure some of those stains belong to the KS.  I remember the summer of her learning to make bread and Baked Alaska.  She and Mom had such a good time cooking together.  It is only right that she inherits Mom's cookbook.  Happy Birthday, KS--and Bon Appetit!  Love you!

Happy St. Patrick's Day on the Dozen O'Random

1. On a scale of 1-10, how superstitious are you, honestly?
Not very. I had a lucky pair of underwear back when the Mr. was coaching. That is all I can recall.

2. Julius Caesar is quoted as saying, "I came, I saw, I conquered." Which circumstance or experience of yours does this saying best describe?
I guess that has been my approach at Trailer High since the tornado. I think that has been the approach of our entire staff. We came together, saw the mess, and conquered the bad circumstances. And we choose to do that every single day.

3. If I peeked in on your day like a mischievous little leprechaun, at what time would I most likely find you blogging?
In the evening or sometimes early morning.

4. Re springing forward for Daylight Saving Time, is there anything you've ever been really early or really late for?
Nope. Not that I can recall.

5. What are you most looking forward to concerning Spring?
Sunshine, warm temperatures, and bike rides.

6. Shamrocks are the national flower of Ireland and are picked on St. Patrick's Day and worn on the lapel or shoulder. Do you wear green on St. Patty's Day?
O' Course I do.

7. One of Caesar's assassins, Casca, said, "But, for my own part, it was Greek to me," which of course means he didn't understand something. Probably his own lines in the play. Anyway, what is something that is "Greek to you," something incomprehensible or indecipherable?
Any math beyond addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.

8. Is March behaving more like a lion or a lamb where you live?
Not a lamb, and not exactly a roaring lion--more like a sleepy one.

9. "An extra yawn one morning in the springtime, an extra snooze one night in the autumn is all that we ask in return for dazzling gifts. We borrow an hour one night in April; we pay it back with golden interest five months later." -Winston Churchill. If you had one extra hour per day every day, what would you do with it?
Read.

10. Legend says that every Leprechaun has a pot of gold hidden deep in the Irish countryside. Aside from real gold or money, what material item would be in your dream pot of gold?
A log cabin.

11. "The best things are nearest: breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of God just before you." Robert Louis Stevenson. Look around you right now and tell us about something essential or beautiful very near you that you take for granted every day.
Loved ones. We count on them always to be there. It is a little too easy to take them for granted.

12. Just for a bit o' fun, click here (www.blogthings.com/irishnamegenerator/) and then report your Irish name. Mine is "Zoe O'Sullivan." I love it!
Avril McCarthy- Avril? I could be singing!
"What butter or whiskey does not cure cannot be cured." That's my Irish proverb. I love it!

I had a terrific Tuesday. K and I took off to go see #1 niece and her three boys. We took them lunch and had the best time visiting. Her boys were quite entertaining and just adorable. We don't see them enough.

CT joined us when K and I arrived home. We waited for the Mr. to get home from work, and while we waited Dad and B came by. We talked them into staying for supper and having birthday cake with us. It was a nice surprise for the Mr.'s Birthday. K and CT "babysat" Baxter while we took Dad and B to see Trailer High and all the construction around Tiny Town. It was good to see them.

I'm still waiting for warmer temperatures. I'm not sure we're going to get our potatoes in the ground today. Besides the gardening, I'd like it to dry out enough that we can get out to the farm this weekend. It isn't looking good. Guess that means I might actually have to grade the papers I brought home. Darn it!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Somebody Is Having A Birthday

We're having a birthday on Easy Street.  This is the Mr.'s day to celebrate!  Well, I'm celebrating.  He might be crying in his beer.

Here's what I'm celebrating about the Mr.:
*He cooks, cleans, and does laundry.
*He starts cars on cold mornings for the females in our house.
*He doesn't mind grocery shopping together.  In fact, he is good at carrying and stowing the bags.
*He's a good Dad.
*He knows how to iron.  (He actually presses better than I do--if I keep him in spray starch.)
*You never have to ask if he's mad.  You know it.
*Little kids always talk to him.  They love him, and they have the funniest conversations.
*He doesn't know a stranger.
*He's full of it.
*He's got a vicious sense of humor.
*He's generous by nature.
*He's kind to cashiers and waiters and waitresses.
*He can take any situation and make it fun--or at least funny.

Yep, he's a pretty tough act to follow for the boys the girls date.

The Mr. can make me fairly mad at times, but  I wouldn't last a week without him.  And I wouldn't want to.  So I'll let Frank sing this birthday song for me.

The Mr. and the Mr. B on Easy Street.  Notice the "Boys Rule" scarf on Baxter.  (Well, they think they do now that they outnumber me. We all know better!)
Happy 55th, Mr.!!  And many more!  Love you!

Randoms, Dr. E, and a Birthday

This week's random dozen questions by Lid at 2nd Cup of Coffee.

1. How good are you at delaying gratification?
Probably average.  I always tell myself that good things come to those who wait.  Sometimes.
2. Maybe a marshmallow wouldn't be too difficult a temptation for you. What food (or anything else) would be most tempting?
Cookies.  I am a cookie-holic.  Other pregnant women craved pickles and ice cream; I craved cookies.  Someday I will die of cookie poisoning.  (Grandad came up with that disease.  I think he might have had it, too!)
3. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being saintly) how patient are you?
Oh, maybe a 2.  I am more patient with my students than my family, and even my students will tell you that I'm not very patient. I want it done my way and pronto!

4. Have you ever waited for something in life only to be disappointed upon realization of the goal/object/etc.?
I can't really think of anything.  I try to underexpect.  (Is that a word?! If it isn't, it should be!) I think high school proms taught me that.  They were fun and all, but not as great as everyone made them out to be. It was just another dance, although a bit dressier.

5. Are you a person who takes shortcuts?
No.  I tend to stick to the road or path. I stay on the sidewalk.  And in teaching, there really are no shortcuts.  You have to read the whole book or write the entire paper.  The answers in the back of the book won't help you if you don't know how to work the problem.

6. Which line is hardest to wait in?
Any store line.  I don't really like shopping--grocery or otherwise.  It prolongs my time in the store when there are huge lines.
7. Did you wait to discover the gender of your unborn child until its birth?
That technology wasn't available at the time, but even if it had been-- I don't think I  would have wanted to know.  That anticipation was incredibly exciting!
8. Are you more patient with children or the elderly?
Probably elderly.  With a child, it is too tempting to intervene and either "speed them up" or do it myself.
9. Did you ever sneak a peek at a present?
Maybe as a kid.  (Though my little sis would tell me, and I wouldn't have to peek!)  Never as an adult.  I like surprises!

10. What is the longest you've ever waited for anything?
Nine months.  They were worth it.  (Unless you count that trip to Europe that I have been waiting on for 30 years.  The clock is ticking!)
11. Who has more patience, you or your significant other?
As impatient as I am, I'd say he is worse.  He can't wait on presents when giving or getting.  He never follows directions when putting things together--it takes too long.  And don't get me started on his calling when he thinks someone should have arrived home already.  A lot of his impatience comes from worrying--which he rarely owns up to!

12. Which of the following songs about waiting is your pick for the best? (OK, you may substitute another, if you like.)
A) Anticipation by Carly Simon
B) The Waiting by Tom Petty
C) Right Here Waiting for You by Richard Marx
D) Wait for Me by Rebecca St. James
I'd  have to go with E)  I'm In a Hurry (And Don't Know Why) by Alabama  (Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.)

And a few more random things thrown in:

You can officially call me Dr. E.  The Mr. flunked his sleeping test in a big way.  In an hour and a half of his "sleeping," they could already find major problems.  The sleep masks were another disaster.  He will be returning to the doctor and perhaps returning for another sleep test to try other alternatives.  My guess is that he has been running on very ineffective sleep for years. Oh, why didn't I go to Med School?  I could be diagnosing the world!!

L is quite happy to learn that CG is headed this way in a couple of weeks.  She thinks this long distance stuff is for the birds.  I can't blame her, though she has been a champ for 5 months now.

CT (part of the K and CT couple) is celebrating his 30th birthday today!  We met his parents for the first time at a pre-birthday dinner last night.  They are very nice people.  Oh!  And their son isn't bad either.  Happy Birthday, CT!  Everyone needs this song on their 30th.

The End of the Week

Favorite moments of this past week:

*Hearing about the 1st grade teacher who asked her students if they knew what was happening in Haiti.  One enthusiastic little fella raised his hand.  "Oooh, oooh, I know!  They had an earthcake!"

*We had a long lunch at trailer high yesterday.  I had to monitor part of the school grounds for about 20 minutes.  While I was on patrol, the sun came out!  Yes, the sun.  I had almost forgotten what sunshine looked like!

*The Mr. and I met Little Big Brother and family and Dad and Grandma B. for a birthday dinner.  Or maybe that was an un-birthday dinner.  There were margaritas, so I'm thinking that means it was a celebration!

*I've been fighting off a cold all week.  I feel like the Energizer Bunny with a weak battery. Throw in an in-service (always a good time) and a library board meeting, and I'm still proud to boast that I didn't miss a day!

*Taping the video time capsule is always an experience...an experience in showing my video camera ineptness.  Favorite moment:  before he talked about his Carhartt jacket, a student ran up the ramp to hop on the deck railing and almost went over backward into a snow drift. I was no help at all, but I captured the moment and got a good laugh at the same time!

*K put in an appearance at Trailer High.  She spent the afternoon tailing the principal for part of her administrative practicum.  I still say she's crossing over to The Dark Side!

*Wii.  I love playing the games.  My Wii age changes daily--anywhere between 41 and 64.  Coming out from the coma of codeine cough syrup didn't do much for my balance. (Hence, the 64!)

I think my Mii on the Wii is one of those sleeping ones.  At least that seems fitting for my week.

L stopped by for some Chinese food and Wii fun last night.  She is a maniac on a skateboard, and a dangerous slalom skier.  (It was a wonder no one was killed.)  We finally got to have birthday cake with her--not to be confused with 'earth cake.'

It was a good week.  And now I feel a weekend crash coming on!
