Grandma's Glider

Mom E. had a wooden glider chair that she sat in daily.  She rarely sat on any other furniture in her apartment.  In fact, I don't think I ever saw her sit on her couch or in the recliner; she was always in her glider chair.

I picture walking in her front door and seeing her sitting in the chair, waiting patiently (sometimes impatiently) for us to arrive.   She didn't get out much in recent years, so that chair was her whole world.

Many times during the past few years, Mom E. would tell us that the glider was to be the Mr.'s after she was gone.  In fact, I think all of us knew exactly which kid was to get which piece of furniture.

After Mom E. died in January, the Mr. had decided that the glider chair would go home with K and CT for the nursery.  The chair is always to be in the nursery of whoever is having a baby, so it will be passed around.

The Mr.'s little brother hauled it down to a local upholsterer for a quick makeover of the glider's cushions.  K chose fabric, and the upholstery job was quickly completed.  Yesterday, the chair came home to Tiny Town.

Grandma didn't know that K was expecting when she died, but I bet she would  be thrilled to know that her latest great-grandchild will be rocked in her favorite chair.

And sitting in the glider chair is a bit like being wrapped up in Grandma E's arms.  She's hugging us from heaven.

This one made me cry. How wonderful for Great Grandma to still be a part of the celebration of new life in the family.

Awwww! I got "goofy gumps" (goose bumps) as Bee would say. How much K will love rocking and reading to her baby in her grandma's chair. Do you have a pic of her holding Baby K in that chair, by chance? It would be nice to put it in a side-by-side frame with one of K and her baby!
