Probably About Time

I think I am ready to take a really big step.

For me, it is huge.

I never thought I'd do this until after I quit teaching, but....

the time has come.

I'm going gray.  A hair dresser foil highlighted me to make the 1/2 inch of gray I am currently sporting less noticeable.  That will take me through the end of school.

It is likely to be a long summer--and possibly fall.  Hats may become my new best friend.  (Well, if I can find one to fit this enormous noggin.)  I will keep highlighting to mix in with the gray.
You might be wondering, why?  My hair started turning gray when I was 32.  I've colored it fairly regularly since then.

For the the last year, my hair hasn't been holding the color very well.  The hair around my face was especially quick to fade, sometimes within days.

And for the last few months, the color of my hair was washing out the color in my face.  The hairdresser tells me that as your hair lightens (grays), your skin color changes, too.  If you don't lighten your hair color, you're going against what your skin is doing naturally.  So...

We'll see.  Time will tell.

Look for updates.  I'll keep you posted.

Let the painfulness begin.

I hope you post updates about this. I am in the same boat as you. I started coloring my hair when I was about 30 because of gray hair. I am now 47 and so sick of coloring it. I have the problem with it not covering at all on the side hairlines so I never pull my hair back. I would so like to just go gray but I am fearful of the growing out process, and truthfully looking older than most of my peers.( I don't know anyone I work or socialize with that has had the courage not to color)I have told my husband I would stop when I retired but that is 13 to 15 years away! I just don't know if that is realistic but we will see. Good luck to you! I bet you will love the freedom.

I've gone silver now for probably close to 13 years, have little brunette left these days. I got tired of having to color my hair regularly and did not like the 'cooking' feeling on my head.I am who I am, and wish to age gracefully each and every day.

Enjoy the transition, you will still be your lovely self.

Good for you! I have hints of gray; I'm too chicken to color!

Wishing you confidence and sending distant hugs as you make this transition.

You could cut it short too and that would help the process go faster. My sister-in-law made the transition with short hair and has been completely gray for twenty-some years (she's 65). The gray hair is stunning as is she.
I don't have enough yet to start the process, yet I had hoped I'd be white by now like my parents and my aunt.
Such gorgeous hair! But that gene bypassed me.
Keep us up to date! Good Luck!♥

I have been coloring my hair for 25 years now. I tried to go gray last summer. I lasted 3 cycles of highlighting before I couldn't stand it anymore and went back to coloring. I wish you the best of luck. It's so hard. The time it takes every month, not to mention the expense! The hardships we women must endure!
